Recently I bought two Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1818 laptops for my employees. It's quite a decent hardware, plus I also found a page that says it works well with Ubuntu.
There is a catch however: internal wi-fi does not work on Ubuntu. I have been trying several different drivers (it's based on sis163u). But although I was able to force it to list available networks I was unable to connect so far.
On the other hand a cheap Pentagram horNET USB wi-fi adapter works perfectly. Special kudos for listing Linux as supported system on retail box.

Hello, sorry to slightly abuse the comments here. I have been using your rcss gem. I think it is a useful addition to rails, I have written in some changes that give access to instance variables of controllers, so that it has similar potential uses to rhtml templates. Would it possible for me to contribute them. You can email me at ruby@ten.sivadsalis (reverse the domain). Thanks
There is a way to make Your WiFi card work under Ubuntu. You can read about it here http://www.forum.ubuntu.pl/showthread.php?t=61671
This method is based on using ndiswrapper with proper driver.
